Indian Air Force inducts (MRSAM Medium Range Surface To Air defence missile system)
MRSAM is an advanced network-centric combat air defence missile system developed jointly by DRDO and IAI.

Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has commissioned the Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM) system into service during a ceremony held at Jaisalmer Air Force Station in Rajasthan.
The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) handed over the first deliverable firing unit (FU) of the system to the Indian Air Force (IAF).
According to a statement issued by the Indian Ministry of Defense (MoD), the induction of the system gives a significant boost to the country’s defense capabilities.
MRSAM is an advanced network-centric combat air defense system jointly developed by DRDO and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) in partnership with Indian industry, private and public sector including Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Are included.

The MRSAM missile system is designed to provide point and area air defense to ground assets against a range of threats.
It can engage multiple targets at ranges up to 70 km in complex environments.

In a significant boost to India’s defense capabilities, the first deliverable firing of the Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM) system to the Indian Air Force (IAF) in the presence of Defense Minister Shri Rajnath Singh in the Air Force Unit (FU) assigned. station, Jaisalmer in Rajasthan on September 09, 2021. Dr G Satheesh Reddy, Secretary, Department of Defense Research and Development and Chairman, DRDO handed over the first deliverable firing unit to Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria, Chief of the Air Staff, in the presence of Shri Rajnath Singh. During the event, officials from DRDO and IAI demonstrated the capabilities of the MRSAM system as part of the On-Site Acceptance Test (OSAT).
Raksha Mantri reiterated the Government’s resolve to strengthen the country’s security infrastructure to meet any challenges arising out of the rapidly changing global strategic landscape. He said that the modernization of the armed forces and creation of a self-reliant defense industry were being accorded top priority. Emphasizing on the need for a strong army, he said that the government is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring the security and overall development of the country.
He listed the measures taken by the government including setting up of defense industry corridors in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu; Incorporation of Ordnance Factory Board; Notification of two positive indigenization lists of over 200 items to enhance exports and transfer of technology (TOT) by DRDO to the private sector. He expressed confidence that India would soon become self-reliant in defense manufacturing as well as become a global manufacturing hub of defense systems.
The Defense Minister described the development of the MRSAM system as a shining example of the close partnership between India and Israel, and said the handing over of the system to the IAF has taken this decades-old friendship to greater heights. He said that it has played an important role in strengthening the defense industrial base of India and Israel. On creation of new testing facilities and infrastructure in the development of this programme, Shri Rajnath Singh said that it will be helpful in producing quality products for both the countries in future. He described the sub-systems being built for this program as a great example of synergy between Indian public and private sector companies.
On the occasion, Raksha Mantri remembered former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam as a visionary who paved the way for self-reliance in the defense sector, especially in the missile development programme. He said that about 30 years ago, Dr Kalam started the Integrated Missile Development Program at a time when scientists were facing various restrictions in the field of technology. Despite all this, the defense minister said, the success of the program not only ensured self-reliance in missile development, but also thwarted the possibility of any cross-border threat.
The MRSAM system provides point and area air defense to ground assets against a wide range of threats including fighter aircraft, UAVs, helicopters, guided and unguided munitions, subsonic and supersonic cruise missiles, etc. It is capable of engaging multiple targets on the range up. 70 km in severe saturation scenarios. The missile is powered by an indigenously developed rocket motor and control system to achieve high maneuverability during the terminal phase.
The Firing Unit consists of Missile, Combat Management System (CMS), Mobile Launcher System (MLS), Advanced Long Range Radar, Mobile Power System (MPS), Radar Power System (RPS), Reloader Vehicle (RV) and Field Service Vehicle. FSV).
Speaking on the occasion, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria congratulated the efforts of the entire team of MRSAM (IAF) and said that this system will enhance the air defense capabilities of the country. Dr G Satheesh Reddy, Chairman, DRDO appreciated the teams involved in the development of the MRSAM system.
