INDIAN ARMY’S MOST INSPIRING WOMAN OFFICER

Girls are now allowed to write the UPSC NDA Exam and join the National Defense Academy very soon this article will inspire young girls to see how high standards their predecessors have set and make them follow in their footsteps and raise the bar further.  is required.  Starting with the article we have two officers who were among the first batch of female cadets to enter an Officers Training Academy.

  • Maj Priya Jhingan:

The daughter of a police officer, she always believed that wearing a uniform and serving the country was more rewarding than a hefty salary.  Since women were not recruited to the ranks of a commissioned officer, at which point she wrote a letter directly to the Chief of the Army Staff to allow this.  Cadet No. 001 in OTA, Priya served for ten years in the Army in the rank of JAG and always stood strong for any case she had.  She inspires the society to have courage for their demands and serve the nation.

A batchmate of Major Priya Jhingan of the WSES-1 course at OTA, she was the first woman officer in the Indian Army to win a gold medal.  Her brother was hesitant to allow her to go for training in Chennai but her determination overcame all odds.  She was instrumental in improving the training of women cadets in OTA with her inputs.

  • Captain Ruchi Sharma:

Commissioned in 1996 in the Army Ordnance Course after completion of training at OTA, Chennai the same institution her father received his training from, she created history by qualifying as the first woman paratrooper, a dream every defence aspirant sees.

The challenges of becoming an operational paratrooper are many which include running 40 kms with a load of 10 kg during training.  But his indomitable spirit is ready for any challenge!  And her maroon berry, something that every child, teenager dreams of in their head, will inspire everyone to achieve their dreams no matter what the obstacles.

  • Captain Tanya Shergill:

An engineer by education, a fourth generation officer, Captain Shergill became the first woman officer to lead an entire parade on Army Day and then the first woman commander to lead a contingent as she led the Corps of Signals (her parent regiment). Rajpath during the Republic Day Parade.  Her command and confidence garnered praise from all sections of the society and inspired young girls to dream big.

  • Captain Divya Ajith Kumar:

A 21-year-old young woman receiving the “Sword of Honour” and Best All-round Cadet award in the men’s and women’s combined course was something unexpected or unimaginable for a Divya.  He outperformed his batchmates in every test including cross country, swimming, field training, service subjects, drill test etc.  Along with creating history here, she led an all-women contingent of 154 women officers during the Republic Day in 2015.  Speaking of records, this officer just liked to be the best.

  • Lat Col Mithali Madhumita:

India’s first woman officer to receive the Sena Medal for Gallantry, Madhumita, who was leading the Army’s English language training team in Kabul, was the first officer to reach the Indian embassy in Kabul in a February 2010 attack by suicide bombers.  The Indian Army’s motto is “Service before Self”, although unarmed, she ran about 2 km to reach the spot, personally evacuating about 19 officers from the Army training team who were buried under the rubble and taking them to a hospital.

  • Captain Shereya:

Her achievements include Haryana Olympic Games 2009-10 – Silver (Individual), Haryana Olympic Games 2010-11 – Silver and Bronze (Individual), Haryana Olympic Games 2011-12 – Gold (Individual) and Gold (Team).

Haryana Olympic Games 2012-13 – Gold (Individual) and Swarna (Team), Haryana State Fencing Championship 2014- Gold (Individual) and Swarna (Team) and many more.  This long run of medals surely goes a long way as they will inspire young girls to explore their dreams on the platform provided by the forces.

  • Major K Renuka:

If there are two things/areas where girls are underestimated it is the army and bikes, but Major Renuka of ASC became both an army officer and now the first woman biker of the Indian Army to cross the Karakoram Pass 18,176 ft Is.  He had to undergo a surgical emergency just a few days before the expedition and doctors advised him a week’s rest after laparoscopic surgery, but with determination for the ideals of the Indian Army, he rode a bike four times his weight.  Made more records.

  • Maj Raj Choudhary:

Commissioned in 2008 in 19 Engineer Regiment, selected for shooting from OTA, Gaya.  She joined the elite Army Marksmanship Unit in 2009 to improve her rifle shooting skills and in 2010 ranked fourth worldwide at the World Military Games in Brazil.  He has 28 national medals and three international medals, having participated in the World Military Games, World Championships, Asian Games, World Cup and National Games since 2010.
